Early life
According to Megastar Magazine, Lizzy Gold was born in Warri, Delta State, into an Itsekiri family. Legit.ng’s biography adds that she has four siblings, three brothers and one sister, and that her parents supported her after she won the Miss Delta pageant. It quotes her telling Vanguard in 2022 that her parents were happy when she won, that they “didn’t like it initially”, but that they have been supportive since.
Many people assume she is Igbo because much of her work is shot in Asaba, which is associated with Igbo-language filmmaking. Legit.ng corrects that: she is Itsekiri, from Warri South. The same article says she is not a twin. The confusion comes from films such as Crazy Twins and Irene the Evil Twin Sister, in which she played two characters. Earlier online biographies that mention a “twin sister” are therefore based on her film roles, not real life, according to Legit.ng.
Beauty pageants and training
Megastar Magazine says she was crowned Miss Delta State in 2006 and later came second runner-up at the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant. She entered acting in 2012 after attending Emem Isong’s Royal Arts Academy in Lagos. Legit.ng adds that she graduated from Delta State University, Abraka, with a degree in information science, and later earned a performing-arts diploma at the academy. The degree appears in only one source and has not been confirmed by the university.
How she built her acting career
In a 2023 interview with The Sun, Lizzy Gold described her path in detail. She went to the acting school in Lagos, then moved east and started working with female producer Uche Nancy. Later she began producing her own movies. She says producers refused to pay her at first and told her that her face would not sell films, so she produced and cast herself in lead and sub-lead parts. She credits the film Princess Olivia, which she produced about three years before that interview, as the hit that made marketers call and turned her into “a brand”. She says she had been working for about ten years in Nollywood by then, and that she now earns more than ₦500,000 for a role, the figure she says other actresses earned when she began. She declined to state a net worth, joking about security risks.
She also gives the advice that aspiring actresses should be patient, respectful and avoid gossip, and says her ambition is to do Netflix films and, one day, to win an Oscar. These are statements of aspiration, not achievements.
Films and production work
Megastar Magazine lists Agaracha the Lioness, Love Is All She Needs, Pastor’s Daughter and The Warri Girl among her better-known films and says she produced Just a Night in 2017. Legit.ng’s longer list includes My Sister’s Betrayal, Marriage Competition, Mark of Royalty, Dangerous Women, Troubled King and The Wrestling Princess. Counts of her total films vary widely, from “over 40” to “over 100”, and we cannot reconcile them.
Charity and business
Megastar Magazine says she runs the Gbubemi Care Foundation, which supports underprivileged university students and youth development in her Itsekiri community, and that she runs Lizzy Gold Productions. We could not find independent coverage of the foundation’s size or accounts. Legit.ng adds that her Instagram account has more than two million followers and that her TikTok account has accumulated over 39 million likes, which are figures that change daily.
Family, motherhood and relationships
Lizzy Gold says she is a single mother. In the 2023 Sun interview she said she has two children and is not married because she is “psychologically not ready” and likes her space. Megastar Magazine says her first child was born in 2015. She has kept the father’s identity private, and so do we. Her children’s names are sometimes published online; we omit them because they are minors.
In 2026 she continued to speak publicly about marriage. Kemi Filani reported in May 2026 that she has said she will only marry a man richer than she is, and has advised women that it is better to be single than badly married. These are personal opinions she shared on social media, and we cite them only to show how she presents herself publicly.
Her father, Johnson Mele Onuwaje, died in late December 2025. Legit.ng reports that she announced his death on 27 December 2025, calling him her “gist partner”, and that he was buried in Warri on 7 February 2026 with several Nollywood colleagues present. In May 2026 she told followers, as reported by Kemi Filani, to “call your parents now”, adding that her mother is “all I have got”. A Legit.ng explainer gives his age as 77; that figure is not in the funeral report we read, so we treat it as unconfirmed.
Why her birth year is disputed
Online biographies of Nollywood actors often differ by a year or two. Megastar Magazine, a lifestyle publication, wrote in October 2024 that she turned 37 that year, which gives 1987. Legit.ng gives 16 October 1989 and a corresponding age of 37 “as of 2026”, which works out to 1989. Neither article cites a document. We therefore give her birthday as 16 October and leave the year open.
