Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was born on the 29th of June in 1927 in Nafada in Gombe State. He began his training under his father, who was a respected Quran reciter and religious teacher. Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi memorised the entire Quran at a very young age and became a Hafiz at the age of 19 or 20. As he grew, he continued to expand his knowledge by learning under esteemed Islamic scholars, solidifying his knowledge of the faith.

In 1948, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi began delivering public Qur’anic teachings to the public, teaching and guiding students. For more than seventy years, he was highly regarded in Nigeria as a reliable interpreter of the Quran.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauch founded numerous Qur’anic schools, memorisation centres, mosques, and educational institutions across Northern Nigeria and beyond. Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was widely known and respected for contributing to Islamic education and producing thousands of Quran memorisers. He began airing his profound teachings on the radio, reaching millions of people that he otherwise couldn’t meet in person.

Personal Life & Legacy

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi fathered dozens of children; some sources put his offspring count at over 100, with hundreds of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many of them, inspired by his work, memorised the Quran as well, continuing his family’s legacy of Qur’anic scholarship.

Many of Nigeria’s recent generation of Islamic scholars and Quranic memorisers trace their roots to Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s profound teachings and the various institutions that he founded. Unfortunately, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi passed away on the 26th of November 2025 at the ripe old age of 98.  Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a man who was truly devoted to Islamic ideals, thought, and principles. He was highly regarded as a man of principle, a pillar of moral authority, and a guardian of Qur’anic truth and defender of the Islamic faith.
