Activism and Career

He founded the Indigenous People of Biafra, whose mission is to restore the now-defunct state of Biafra by means of self-determination. Kanu’s brand of activism called for non-violent civil disobedience and strong rhetoric criticising the Nigerian government for perceived misdeeds and the marginalization of the Igbo people, thereby pushing the Biafran agenda. The IPOB has a paramilitary wing known as the Eastern Security Network, which engages in activities they claim protect the South-East from terrorist attacks.
