Ireti Heebah Kingibe was born on the 2nd of June 1954 into a culturally diverse family with a Yoruba-Fulani Muslim father and a Delta Igbo-Bonny Christian mother. This background shaped and defined her personality, worldview, and fluency in multiple languages.
Ireti undertook her primary and secondary education at Emotan Preparatory School and Queen’s College, Lagos, but she completed her secondary education at Washington Irving High School. She eventually studied Civil Engineering at the University of Minnesota, earning her degree in 1980.
Ireti built a strong, thriving career before she ventured into politics. Ireti worked as a quality control engineer at Bradley Precast Concrete Inc., and she later joined the Minnesota Department of Transportation Design Unit. After returning to Nigeria for her mandatory NYSC service, she supervised projects at the Nigerian Air Force base in Ikeja. Ireti eventually worked at New Nigeria Construction Company and as a planning engineer in other companies.

Ireti began her political journey in 1990 as an adviser to the defunct Social Democratic Party. Ireti contested the FCT senatorial seat in 2003 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later joined the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
In the year 2022, Ireti joined the Labour Party, and she ran as its senatorial candidate in the 2023 elections. Ireti defeated the incumbent Philip Aduda to become the Senator for the FCT. Ahead of the elections, Ireti made a promise to voters to donate her basic salary to a fund targeting infrastructural deficits in rural communities.
Since she took office, Ireti has championed empowerment programs for underprivileged communities, healthcare improvement programs, and various infrastructure projects that have had a direct impact on residents across the FCT.

Ireti was married to Baba Gana Kingibe, a well-known Nigerian politician, but details of their personal lives and children remain private.
Ireti is a barrier breaker and a change maker, being one of the few women to ever represent the FCT in the Senate. Ireti’s community-centered approach has endeared her to her constituents, who hold her in very high regard.
