Early life and origin
Legit.ng and Yen.com.gh both say he was born on 12 March 1990 in the Nsit Ibom area of Akwa Ibom State and raised in Lagos. That is consistent with describing Akwa Ibom as his state of origin. His ethnicity is less certain. Legit.ng’s profile calls him Igbo, while a separate biography site, biographies.com.ng, says he is from Akwa Ibom and of Ibibio ethnicity. Akwa Ibom is the heartland of the Ibibio people, which makes the second account plausible, but neither source gives evidence beyond assertion. We therefore state the conflict instead of choosing a side.
The same uncertainty applies to his name. Legit.ng and Yen.com.gh give his full name as Maurice Samuel Oluwaseun; Nollywood.com lists a different set of names. Public figures often use a screen name that differs from their birth name, and without a passport, an official profile or an interview in which he states it himself, we cannot say which is correct.
Education and start in acting
Legit.ng says he studied mass communication at the University of Lagos. We did not find a second source confirming this. Several sources say he began performing in drama at a church group when he was young, and one biography site says he was the eldest of three siblings; we could not confirm the sibling claim and do not repeat it as fact.
Breakthrough with Hustle
Yen.com.gh says his screen debut came in July 2016 in the series On the Real, where he played a character called BJ, and that in September of that year he started appearing in Hustle, a comedy-drama in which he is said to have featured in all 120 episodes. Legit.ng and Nollywood.com agree that his 2016 role as Acid in Hustle, shown on Africa Magic, was his breakthrough. Subscriber numbers change constantly, so check the channel itself for the current figure.

Besides television, Legit.ng lists a number of films that he has published on his own YouTube channel, including Love Triangle, Your Eyes on Me, Money Game, Fire Hearts, Steal My Heart, A Player’s Heart, A Place Called Love, Mr. Heartbreaker, Native Fowl, Star Struck and Crazy About You. The list suggests a strong focus on romance, which fits Nollywood.com’s description of him as one of the industry’s “lover boy” romantic leads. Posting films directly to YouTube is also a sign of how Nollywood distribution has shifted, since many producers now release features online rather than only through cinemas or television. We have not checked each title’s production company, release date or whether he produced it, so treat the list as an indication of his online presence rather than a complete filmography.

Legit.ng says he “won the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2018” and a Golden Movie Award for Best Actor in a Comedy in 2019. The first claim does not name a category, and we could not find the nominee or winner lists to confirm it, so we do not consider it established. The 2019 Golden Movie Award is reported by a single source. Readers who need exact awards should check the award bodies’ own winners’ lists.
Personal life: what is and is not known
Many pages claim to answer the question of his wife and children. Legit.ng’s answer is that he likes to keep his life private. It adds that there are rumours linking him to an actress he works with, that neither has confirmed it, and that he appeared to be single as of 2026. Legit.ng also says that rumours naming a veteran actor and his wife as his parents appear to be erroneous and that details of his parents remain unknown. We found no verified report of a spouse, children or a named parent, and we do not state any. If you read otherwise elsewhere, ask whether the page quotes the actor himself.
Social media presence
Legit.ng reported about 1.1 million Instagram followers for @maurice_sam as of May 2026. His public bio also describes him as a DJ. As with the YouTube figure, follower counts rise and fall, and a number quoted in an article is only a snapshot.
Why biographies of him disagree
Several Nigerian biography sites copy each other. An error introduced once, such as a different birth name, a different tribe or an invented marriage, can spread across many pages and give the impression of confirmation.
