Nicholas Ukachukwu: SNECOU Founder and 2025 Anambra APC Candidate
Nicholas Ifeanyi Ukachukwu, widely styled Dr Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, is a Nigerian businessman and politician from Osumenyi in Nnewi South, Anambra State. He founded the SNECOU Group, held local and federal office around the turn of the century, and made repeated attempts at higher office. In 2025 he was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Anambra State and lost to the incumbent, Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This profile replaces an older article that described him as an APGA figure and gave an unsourced birth year and education; published sources disagree on several basics, so we show those disagreements rather than choose one.

Background and education: where sources disagree
Ukachukwu’s early life is documented mostly by campaign-adjacent profiles and political news sites, and they do not agree. Naija News, in a profile published when the APC presented him as its candidate, says he was born on 20 March 1967, hails from Dimala village in Osumenyi, and attended Omaigwe Primary School and Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. It says he earned a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Calabar and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Administration by Tansian University in Anambra State in 2016. That last point is useful: the title “Dr” in his name appears to come from an honorary degree, not an earned doctorate, according to that profile.
Legit.ng gives a different picture: birth on 20 March 1969, a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1984, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Manchester in 1988. A 2023 profile on NewsWireNGR matches Legit.ng on the 1969 date and the Manchester MBA, but names different schools again: St John’s Primary School, Osumenyi, St Charles Secondary School, Onitsha, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The previous version of this article said he went to Christ the King College, Onitsha, and studied at the University of Lagos, which none of these sources supports. We cannot reconcile the accounts, and a 1984 degree from a person born in 1969 would be implausible, so we regard the birth year and the education history as unresolved. If you need to cite either, check his certificates or an INEC submission.
Business: SNECOU Group
All profiles agree that his main business vehicle is the SNECOU Group. Naija News, citing his campaign website, says his entrepreneurial career began in 1987 and that SNECOU has interests in oil and gas, construction, real estate, agriculture, media and education. It names real estate developments in Abuja, including Prince and Princess Estate, Good Homes Estate and Shalom Villa Estate, which it says were developed in partnership with the Federal Government, and says he founded the British Nigeria Academy and the European University of Nigeria. It also lists him as chairman of Snecou Financial Services, Niccus Industries Limited and Phil-Tech Oil and Gas Services Limited. Legit.ng instead says he joined his father’s firm, Nwakwo and Sons Limited, in 1985, and describes SNECOU Oil and Gas, SNECOU Construction and SNECOU Media, which it says owns newspaper publications and broadcast stations, as well as the British Nigeria Academy.
These descriptions mostly come from the businessman’s own materials, relayed by news sites. We did not find independent audited figures for turnover or asset values, and several outlets call him a billionaire without evidence. We therefore do not state a net worth.
Early political career
According to Naija News, he first came to political prominence in 1997, when he was elected Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), described as the first non-indigene to hold the position. In 1999 he was elected to the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the AMAC and Bwari federal constituency, chairing the committee on the Federal Capital Territory and later the committee on oil and gas, the profile says. It credits him with securing shop allocations for Igbo traders in Wuse Market and overseeing construction of Dei-Dei Market. Legit.ng also dates his House service to 1999 to 2003. Naija News adds that he was elected senator for Anambra South in 2003 but his mandate was “truncated”; it gives no further explanation and we did not find an independent account, so we treat that claim with caution.
Attempts at the governorship and Senate
Legit.ng and Naija News agree that he has run for office many times. He left the PDP in 2006 and contested the Anambra governorship under the Progressive Peoples Alliance, losing to Peter Obi of APGA. In 2010 he ran again under the Hope Democratic Party and again lost to Obi. In 2013, Legit.ng says, he returned to the PDP but lost the ticket to Oseloka Obaze (spelt “Osekoka” by Legit.ng). He joined APGA in 2018 to contest the Anambra South Senate seat in 2019, and his candidacy was later nullified by a court, Legit.ng reports. This is why older profiles, including ours, link him with APGA. In 2025 he ran on the ruling APC’s ticket.
The 2025 Anambra governorship election
Naija News reports that Ukachukwu won the APC primary with 1,455 votes in a contest chaired by Cross River governor Bassey Otu, and that then APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje presented his certificate of return on 19 April 2025. His running mate was Ekwunife Uche Lilian. His campaign slogan was “Anambra ga-adi mma ozo”, which Naija News translates as “Anambra will be better again”, and the profile lists job creation, infrastructure, youth empowerment and transparent governance as priorities. Legit.ng reports he pledged “prosperity, transparency, and lasting development”.
The election took place on 8 November 2025. The Guardian’s report of INEC-collated results says Soludo won re-election in all 21 local government areas with 422,664 votes. Ukachukwu was second with 99,445 votes, ahead of Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party with 33,652. The Guardian said the turnout was low, with about 576,000 voters of 2.7 million accredited. These are collated results reported on 9 November 2025, and we did not check INEC’s final declaration or any tribunal petition.
After the election
A search result from Independent Newspaper indicates that in the months after the election the Anambra APC held party congresses where Ukachukwu and another party figure, Ekwunife, appealed for peace and unity, and the chapter endorsed Tinubu for a second term. We could not open that page, so we cannot give details or a date. We found no reports of him holding or being appointed to public office in 2026.
Philanthropy and honours
Naija News says he is known for philanthropy, including scholarships, free healthcare programmes and youth empowerment schemes, and says his businesses created thousands of jobs. It also lists awards, but we did not review the list and the claims are not independently verified, so we do not repeat them. We have not included details of his marriage or children, which are covered in other profiles but are not necessary for understanding his public record.
What we could not verify
- Date of birth (1967 or 1969) and his education history: published profiles contradict each other.
- That his doctorate is honorary rather than earned: this rests on Naija News alone.
- Whether he was elected Senator for Anambra South in 2003 and why his mandate ended.
- Business scale, turnover, ownership of media outlets and the “billionaire” label.
- The detail and date of the post-election Anambra APC congress story.
- Any 2026 role in the party or government.
