About Us

About HQBios

HQBios (hqbios.com) is an online publication that offers biographies of African and global public figures. Our articles cover people in entertainment, sport, politics, business, media, music, and other fields who are already in the public eye. Every biography is compiled from publicly available sources and is written to give readers a clear, readable summary of who a person is and what they are known for.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make accurate, well-organised biographical information easy to find. Many people search for the background of an athlete, artist, politician or entrepreneur and land on pages that are short, confusing or full of unverified claims. We want to offer a better alternative: biographies that stick to what can be supported by public sources, that are clear about what is not known, and that are corrected promptly when we get something wrong.

We have a particular interest in Africa. African public figures are often under-covered in English-language reference material, and we want to help change that by giving their careers and achievements the same careful treatment as anyone else.

Who We Are

HQBios is run by a small editorial team. Our site is administered by Gideon Nelson, and Collins Igwe serves as an editor. You can read more about each of them on their author pages.

What We Publish

  • Biographies of public figures, including early life, education, career and notable work, where this information is publicly documented.
  • Updates to existing biographies when new, verifiable information becomes available.
  • Corrections when readers or subjects point out errors.

How We Research

Each biography begins with a review of publicly available material about the subject. We try to confirm important facts, such as dates, roles, titles, awards and career milestones, against more than one source where possible. When sources disagree, we either use the better-documented version or say plainly that the information is disputed or unclear.

We do not publish guesses. If a detail cannot be supported, we leave it out. We are especially careful with private matters such as finances, family members and relationships. Our full standards are set out on our Editorial Policy page.

Our Sources

We rely on publicly available sources, which may include:

  • Interviews and statements given by the subject.
  • Official websites and verified social media profiles of the subject or their organisation.
  • Reputable news outlets and published reporting.
  • Official records, league or institutional pages, and award body listings.
  • Published books, documentaries and other reference works.

Where it helps the reader, we name or link to the sources behind important claims.

Independence and Advertising

Our biographies are written independently. We do not accept payment to change what we say about a person. The site may display advertising, including through third-party advertising services, to help cover running costs. Advertising does not influence our editorial decisions. Details on how advertising and cookies work are in our Privacy Policy.

How to Reach Us

We welcome questions, feedback, correction requests and removal requests. Please email us at [email protected] or use our Contact page. When reporting an error, please tell us which page it is on, what is wrong, and, if you can, send a link to a source that supports the correction. We aim to review every message and act on valid corrections promptly.

Thank you for reading HQBios.
